GRA 462 Visual Communication VI serves as the final major studio in the program, functioning as a synthesis course that brings together the knowledge and skills students have developed throughout their studies. The studio is structured to mirror a professional design environment, encouraging students to approach their work with professionalism and accountability. Inspired by educator Ken Hiebert’s perspective that school is its own “real world,” the course emphasizes focusing fully on present learning as preparation for future professional practice. Students are encouraged to treat the studio as a creative lab—experimenting, taking risks, and learning through challenge and failure.
Throughout the session, students will design a promotional poster for a public online exhibition, conceptualize the format of their individual exhibit, and produce a digital book documenting their final year centered on a social issue. The course aims to foster creative exploration, strong visual communication, cohesive exhibit design, professional-level online presentation, and active participation in a collaborative studio environment.
